On behalf of the Child Safety Committee we
would like to thank you for taking the time to complete your
application packet and an interview.
The purpose of the interview is:
- To review the church resolution, including the 2-adult
rule.
- To review the Child Protection Services Release of
Information form (background check).
- To respond to any questions you may have regarding the
Child Safety Program.
- To review and discuss the confidential application.
The members of the Child Safety Committee pledge to you the
applicant the following:
- The entire Child Safety Program is confidential and
information discussed will remain between the interview
panel. Should information need to be shared with the
pastor, for any reason, you will be notified prior to
that time by one of your interviewers.
- Questions that are asked will be focused on the safety of
our children.
- Due to the sensitive nature of some of the material that
will be discussed the interviewers will be compassionate
and objective.
Because you are applying for a childrens ministry position we
would expect of you, the applicant:
- Honesty and openness to questions asked.
- That if you have questions or concerns related to the
application process you will let the committee know as
soon as possible, preferably before your interview.
- That should you feel, due to a variety of reasons, you
would like to postpone your interview, you will let us
know. (This may be before or at any time during the
interview.)
Additional Information:
- You will be notified by telephone of the results of your
application within one week by your interviewers.
- Due to the fact that the Child Protective Services
Release of Information form (background check) must go to
the Commonwealth of Virginia, the results may not be
known for several months. In light of this, applicants
will be informed of the results of their application,
including the interview, and will function at the
approved position pending results of the Child Protective
Services Release of Information form and reference
checks. If there is any concern about the Child
Protective Services Release of Information form or
reference checks you will be notified by the pastor or
interviewers.
Child-Related Ministry Positions:
Leader
- One leader must be present at all times to meet the
2-adult rule
- Must have completed the Child Safety Program (over 21
years)
- May function as a monitor who moves between rooms for
S.H.E.E.P. group, Sunday School, or nursery.
Assistant
- May be second adult for the 2-adult rule
- Must have completed Child Safety Program (over 21 years)
Helper
- Aids in ministry
- Even if helper is over 21, they may not be counted as
adult for the 2-adult rule
- Need not have completed Child Safety Program (may be
under 21 years)
