Did Jesus Know Everything?

Q: Since Jesus was part of the Trinity, didn’t he know everything and have all the answers?A: The theological term, as I’m sure you know is omniscience:
omni = all
science = to know

The answer to your question is “Yes” and “No.” Since Jesus is part of the Trinity, He is omniscient, but in His humanity, Jesus chose not to know certain things. For instance, Jesus learned and “grew in wisdom” (Luke 2:52) and chose not to know the time of His second coming (Matthew 24:36). Yet at other times Jesus exhibited omniscience (John 1:48-49; John 6:61,64; prediction of Peter’s denial; John 13:11; John 16:30; etc.).

Just to be clear on this point, the gospel writers explicitly state Jesus’ omniscience: Matthew 9:4; John 2:24-25; 13:11. Christ never actually laid aside his omniscience when he came to earth (Philippians 2:7). To do so would mean that Jesus ceased to be God. But in His humanity, He chose to draw upon His omniscience only at certain times and not at others. What Jesus laid aside was the prerogative and right of omniscience and He used that right only at the Father’s direction.
