Teaching
& Worship ResourcesFrom time to time God allows us to create some items that we'd like to share with other teachers, elders, and pastors. Here are some presentations and worship services that can be modified to fit your own needs. For the Word documents or PowerPoint files, you may need to right click, select "Save As," and then put save them to a place on your hard drive. Then go to that place, double click on the file, and run them from there:
A Festival of Lessons and Carols (Microsoft Word document file) - A traditional Christmas worship service using nine Scripture readings with their corresponding carols. (Alternative carols are suggested.) We've used this on Christmas Eve and done some of the carols as special music and others as congregational singing. Also available for download is a Word document of the Scriptures or, if you prefer, the Scriptures in poetry form.
Hanging of the Greens and Chrismon Service (Word document file) - The word Chrismon refers to symbols hung on Christmas trees that speak of the Christian faith. The word comes from a combination of “CHRISt’s MONograms.” Many of the symbols are simply copies of symbols that Christians have used from the earliest days. The symbols are inter-denominational and the heritage of all Christians. This worship service is used for the first Sunday of Advent prior to Christmas. Also available for download is an example of the letter sent to those willing to participate in the service and a PowerPoint file which was used so everyone could see what the Chrismon looked like.
Passover Service - At Easter time we often hold a Passover service showing the places that Christ washed the disciples' feet and distributed the elements for the Lord's Supper. The service is a meal - just like a Passover Seder would be, so don't expect to do this on a Sunday morning! We have a Longer Version of the service and a Shorter Version. Also available are Instructions for Set Up, a document containing Passover Responsive Readings and Songs, and a Recipe for Kharoset!
Resurrection Sunday drama - written by a member of our congregation. You can listen to the drama (Part 1 & Part 2), but the tape doesn't do justice to the drama or the live performance. Contact the author for a copy.
Who Wants to Be a Hundredaire? is a PowerPoint presentation we used at Christmas time, but it can easily be modified to fit any subject you wish. See the Who Wants to Be a Hundredaire page for downloading and instructions.
Jason McConnell, Assistant Pastor at Wellspring United Methodist (WellspringUMC.com), used the Hundredaire PowerPoint to create skits for a sermon series on ?What Makes a Methodist a Methodist? Each skit only made use of two questions, but he did some nice modifications with the lifelines. His Who Wants to Be a Methodist zip file contains two PPT files (one for each skit), some sound files and a poll card template. They used polling cards taped to the chairs for the Ask the Audience lifeline (the congregation's input was bogusly transmitted to the PowerPoint slide). For Phone a Friend they had the pastor backstage on a microphone. Jason called myself Fegis Rilbin (instead of Regis Philbin). Here are the sound clips for the First and Second skit.
Jeopardy PowerPoint - This was used for a sermon series on Nehemiah, but can easily be adapted for other uses. See notes on pages 1 & 2 for instructions on running and modifying. Font & sound files have been placed in a zipped file and can be found here.
What the Bible says about Cars PowerPoint - A humorous sermon showing the practicality of the Bible for 21st century living using the names of automobiles. WWJD - What would Jesus drive anyway?
